Hi, I'm Sophie!
I like to publish here if I have a personal perspective to share, regardless of the topic. I find interacting with readers very rewarding.
I am designing for Medium in a team focusing on Membership, and I live in France. I feel very lucky to work here as I have been using Medium for a long time. I work mostly remotely, and sometimes, if friends invite me, I am using their office. I also sometimes cowork just to see people, as I realized movement without disruption helps me focus. If you understand French and are curious about what the culture is like at Medium, here's an episode of podcast Culture d'Entreprise where I explain.
I retrained in 2015 to design interfaces, and since then have worked in the video game industry, health tech, and e-commerce. Before that, my professional life revolved around photography, I was once a retoucher, then an art director, and a photoshoot producer. I loved every part of my career. Something very recurring was working in international environments, this resonates with my personal life as I grew up between 2 cultures (French and Spanish). This is something that broadened my vision of the workplace. Again, if you can understand French, here's another podcast episode (Design Journeys) where I elaborate on my career. Otherwise, here's my LinkedIn page.
Whenever I can, I try to connect to the French Design community. I did a lot of mentorship for instance in the past year, have been a jury for a UX design certification, and tutored a student for their UX dissertation. I mostly helped junior female designers, and I like the idea of sorority in the industry. I am also trying to create opportunities for impromptu lunches and coffee chats with fellow senior designers to compare our experiences and share our learnings. Over the last couple of years, I have tried to share my experience more widely through stories I published here, talks and podcasts.
I am a mother and have 2 boys. I am doing my best to help them become good humans.
My hobbies include going to the gym, doing yoga, cooking, drawing, reading, and playing board games.
Please take a look at my stories, but also my lists, I have been collecting good content here for a while now.
